Frog of the Day

It's a beautiful day here at Frog Central and the Wrangler and I are going outdoors to enjoy it!

This collectible is from the National Wildlife Federation and is a Red Eyed Tree Frog made out of a rubber tree. This is a great hand carved item from Central America.

Frog of the Day

Monday morning and already the day is busy. I've spent the morning trying to find a new doctor after the big Frog Central move. It's time for the Frog Wrangler and I to take a break and have some tea!

I was actually surprised when I did some review of the blog and it looks like I have not listed any of my miniature tea sets yet - so thought I would change that today. I'm not sure of the company - on the box it says Handpainted by W.U./J.C. This set dates to 1995. It consists of the large lilypad on which are three frogs. Each of these three frogs have a section of their back that lifts off and represent the teapot, sugar, and creamer. The two flowers with frogs laying back are the teacups and saucers. I love these little sets and have quite a number of different ones.

Frog of the Day

It's been a quiet Sunday morning, doing all the usual relaxing Sunday things. Was a little disappointed that NPR had a guest host for their morning show. Now it's time to clip coupons and get ready to go shopping. The weather here is a little chilly today but the 5-day forecast has two days with 60's listed! Oh happy days - the frogs will be hopping for sure.

This great collectible is from Boyds Bears & Friends as part of their Wee Folkstones - Ribbit & Co. line from 1998. It is called "Charles Dunkleberger, Prince of Tales ... Kiss Me Quick." It is listed as style #36700. This is a limited edition piece. Mine is Edition 2E, piece number 9215. Boyds has made some wonderful frogs - it's too bad they stopped.

From the Box:
... as distinguished denizens of The Wee Folkstone Realm, the handsome Frogs (now there's and oxymoron) are quite "Princely" ... not your Run-of-the-Pond Amphibians. They're really quite dignified, yet casually dressed ... the better to pursue Life's Finest Pleasures ... such as Fishin', Kissin', and Eatin' (though not necessarily in that order) ... and to remind us that despite Appearances, many a Frog is really a Prince. Charles Dunkleberger, Prince of Tales ... Kiss Me Quick! Whattadeal ... kisses marked down to free! Is this guy Desperate for a Date??? (maybe he's kissed one too many frogs himself ... like the rest of us ... and is despairing of ever finding Ms. Right.) Despite his royal Crown and Cape he's having a hard time attracting Kissers ... Princesses or otherwise ... but Hope still springs eternal (or at least for another five minutes) ... don't miss the Bargain on kisses from a Real Prince!

Frog of the Day

It's Mardi Gras season - so dress up in feathers and furs, go out in the backyard and go wild! Hey, if nothing else, it gives the neighbors something to talk about. Forgive me, I did not get much sleep last night. Just drifting off when a skunk decided to camp out under the bedroom window - for most of the night my eyes watered as I tried to smother myself with my pillow!

This frog collectible is from Otigiri and is a stackable salt and pepper frog set. Otagiri is a maker of highly collectible items. The stamp on the bottom of this item is "Upland for Otigiri." I do not have a date for this set. You can see the holes for the pepper shaker under the mouth of the frog. The frog comes off and is the smaller section. The base makes up the larger salt section.

This frog collectible is from Annalee Mobilitee Dolls and is their 10" Floatin' Flo Frog. I love the purple flippers (that match the hair, of course). This piece dates to 1999.

InkaDinkaDo - Frog Stamp
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Don't worry - be hoppy! It's Thursday and after a night with the heating pad and some very strong pain killers I'm able to stand up - always a good thing! Thanks to all who wrote me wishing me well. And I also love hearing about your froggies as well - a lot of new people are collecting Sprogz and looking for older ones. My advice is to keep looking at E-bay and also check out collectible stores that don't have their inventory on the web. Sometimes it's just going to be you walking into a store and finding them.

This frog item is a rubber stamp from the IndaDinkaDo company. I use this one often on the backs of envelopes on the flap area - just a little something extra to hopefully brighten someone's day. The company is in Boston. I do not have a date as to when I bought this item - I found it at a local craft store.

Frog of the Day

Oh what a day it has been! In the midst of running some errands I heard a loud popping sound and my back gave out! So I've been sitting in the car trying to decide how I was going to get back in the house. Thank goodness for heating pads!

This wonderful collectible is from the Warner Bros. Studio Store and it is a Michigan J. Frog Cookie Jar. It is ceramic and is in two pieces - the hat lifts off as the jar top. This dates to 1998 and with all Michigan J. Frog items has become highly collectible ever since Warner Bros. dropped him as the WB mascot.

This huge plush frog is from Folkmanis, Inc. and is a Bullfrog Puppet. This is part of their Puppets with a Tale series and this is of course The Frog Prince. The hang tag does have an abbreviated version of the Brothers Grimm tale. This is a very large plush standing nearly 24 inches tall. It has an opening in the back in which to place your hand and move the mouth. This Folkmanis item is still available but is on their soon to be retired list.

Frog Page Marker
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Happy Holiday! It seems like I just said that last week - oh wait, I did. Well, with today's we won't get any mail so no new froggies will arrive today. Guess I'll go read a book - what page was I on again . . .

This cute little frog item is a page marker. It is made of plastic and I do not have any further information.

Cardinal - Frog Tidbit Dish
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
It's a lazy Sunday morning - just finished listening to NPR's Sunday Morning Show and now it's time to clip the coupons from the paper and get together a shopping list for this next week. Pretty exciting stuff, heh?

This frog item is from Cardinal, Inc. and is a ceramic tidbit dish that is part of their Frogs line. It is 7 1/4 inches by 5 5/8 inches and is 2 5/8 inches deep - just enough room for a small amount of tidbits. The box states "An afternoon by the pool . . . Fun and whimsical are our frolicking frogs." This item is hand sculptured and painted. It is made in China. I do not have a date on this item.

Now I'm going to try something new here today! I know the froggie on the side of the pool can hardly be seen, so I took a close-up.

Frog of the Day

Friday and oh what a difference a day makes - Frog Central was pelted with hail for about a half hour last evening (no damage noticed, thank you) and then thunderstorms and tornado warnings! It was crazy to be sure. And the teperature dropped 40 degrees into the 20's. I don't think this weather can get any crazier.

This frog collectible is from Princess House and is a 24% Lead Crystal Frog. It is made in the Czech Republic. A lovely piece that I believe dates to 1998.

Frog of the Day

It's been a tough morning here at Frog Central - the call is for rain, thunderstorms, and high winds. It was a beautiful 60 degrees here yesterday. Although I wasn't able to get any after holiday sales at Walmart! Oh well, I still have Halloween candy anyway.

This is a 2001 calendar from Avalanche publishing in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance. It is a 16-month calendar with photos from Michael Turco.

Frog of the Day

The after glow of Valentine's Day. Actually I'm going to Walmart to check out the deals on day after candy!

This plush is from CVS's Hearts and Hugs Collection and is called Kissing Couple. Sitting on their plush pillow, I'm sure they enjoyed the holiday. This dates to this year, 2006.

Happy Valentine's Day! Hop on the frog and ride down to Kokomo.

This fun frog couple is from CVS and is part of their Hearts & Hugs Collection. It is a Singing Animated Motorcycle Frog Couple. When the button is pushed the motorcycle sound revs and the frog couple dance up and down to the strains of Kokomo. I just received this yesterday and it will make a great addition to the collection!

It is style number 380006 and dates to 1999. It is made up of 3 pieces. I love the little banner on the snorkel of the smaller frog - it says Caution Student Swimmer. She spent the rest of the night in my bed crying with a sore paw but with one of her pain killers she was better by morning. Then I told her let's go for a ride - her favorite thing to do. And lo and behold don't we make a stop at the local vet where she gets her yearly shots and her nails clipped (her most unfavorite thing in the world!). So here she is after spending about 10 minutes bawling me out for sitting in her chair when she wanted it - so if I wouldn't move she did the next best thing and just hopped on top of me. Hey, I am her favorite pillow after all!

Frog of the Day

Well I ran to the store last night because the weatherman said snow and well, running to the store is the proper response to snow isn't it? So no snow yet, but we're supposed to get it this evening. The cardinals in the yard really stand out against the snow but the albino squirrel tends to disappear (although the Frog Wrangler still seems to locate it somehow and goes charging right up to the end of her leash!).

This frog item is from World Bazaars, Inc. and is a Wall Bird Feeder. It is a very heavy ceramic piece and quite large. I do not have a date on this item.

20 New Frog Species Found

You may have heard the news of the "Lost World" found in a remote area of Indonesia. Among the finds of animals who were thought to be extinct and some just plain unimagined were 20 new species of frogs! Let's hope that the human race can do better in protecting these rare treasures.

Frog of the Day

It's snowing! Frog Central is supposed to get an inch of snow and the way it's coming down I wouldn't be surprised if it was more. All we can do is wait for warmer days when we can go to the beach - froggies, it's not going to happen today so you can go change now.

This salt and pepper set is from Cardinal. They are made of ceramic and are hand-painted. Fun and whimsical for an afternoon by the pool!

Thanks to Kathy for bringing us the Frog of the Day today. Frog Central is always happy when new froggies arrive!

This set of Grandpa's Tub Toys Collectibles is from Melvco, Inc. located in Sisters, OR. A cute set that will make a nice addition to the frog collection.

Re-post of yesterday's Frog of the Day

Hagen-Renaker - Papa Frog
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

A cute little collectible that I purchased last year when my favorite collectibles store closed their doors.

Blogger hiccup

Blogger apparently had a hiccup yesterday - it was unavailable for quite a bit of yesterday afternoon. Glad to see that it is back, but in the process it lost yesterday's Frog of the Day! I'll repost it today.

Frog of the Day

It's the first of February another beautiful day here at Frog Central. It feels like I should be spring cleaning but it's still winter - and who wants to clean anyway!

This frog collectible is a thimble from Gimbels Thimbles. It is a clay thimble hand-made in Peru. A cute little collectible.
