Frog of the Day

Radko - Just A Kiss Away
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
It's Wednesday and a bad day already here at Frog Central. Hopefully the cinnamon buns I made (and which are cooling as I type) will make the day better.

This is a Christopher Radko ornament called Just A Kiss Away. It dates to 1995 and was made in Germany. It is 6 inches tall and is inventory number 95-228-0. Records from the time also show a 95-228-1 and I'm not sure of the difference between the two. This was the first Radko frog that I added to my frog collection.

Frog of the Day

Here at Frog Central we love culture. Why just last night around the pond the ballet Frog Lake was performed to critical acclaim!

This frog collectible is from Kathleen Kelly and is entitled Lilyann Ballerina Frog. Kathleen Kelly pieces are highly collectible and the early pieces are almost impossible to find. Newer pieces can be found at A Froggy Place - link in the right hand column.

Huggable Honeys - Frog
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
It's been a rough Monday already! Here at Frog Central it is very cold and the rumors of snow are swirling. I do know the wind is whipping around, making the Frog Wrangler a bit nervous. Time to go wrap up in my nice new afghan - thanks to AB - and get warm!

This plush little frog is from Huggable Honeys according to the hang tag. The tag on the plush itself says Zangeen, Inc. along with the date 1998. A cute little plush that I'm glad to add to my collection.

Frog of the Day

It's a nice Sunday here at Frog Central - mid-40's. Unfortunately they are calling for snow flurries tomorrow night. It's hard to believe that 2005 is close to being over - I hope I receive a new frog calendar for Christmas!

This frog collectible is a 2005 calendar from National Geographic. Published by Zebra Publishing. If you would like to purchase the National Geographic 2006 Frogs calendar, you can go directly to www.zebrapublishing.com.

Radko - Kisser King
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
I can't believe it is Saturday already. I'm still eating Thanksgiving leftovers and enjoying them very much. Now by Monday or Tuesday I may be croaking a different tune!

This magnificient Radko ornament is new from this year and is part of the 20th Anniversary Collection. Radko ornaments from this year have a special extra red hang-tag saying 20th Anniversary. This piece is called Kisser King and is a very large ornament at around 10 inches tall! It is a two-part ornament and I took the picture I did so you could see the connection between the two. These type of ornaments - and there are several - require a little closer attention when packing them away to be sure that the two ornaments do not rub against each other because it will mar the waterpaint finish quite easily.

A word too about insurance. If you are collecting Radko ornaments or other expensive pieces please remember that your regular house insurance does not cover collectibles. You must have a complete inventory and appraisal - then purchase a separate policy for your items. And if you are like me and your collection is constantly growing, remember to update your insurance policy regularly.

Kurt S. Adler - Frog ornament

There are now 29 shopping days until Christmas. I did not hit the stores this morning. Instead I did my shopping on-line. I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving yesterday. Here at Frog Central a nice ham dinner was served with all the fixings and of course, pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I have so many left overs I'll be eating ham for weeks!

This wonderful ornament is from Kurt S. Adler and is entitled Frog on Star. This is a heavy ornament made out of resin. A nice ornament to add to the collection.

Quarry Critters - Forest
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
It's hard to believe that it's been a year already. I've had a lot of fun looking through my collection and picking different collectibles to display. I hope that you have had as much fun as I had. I look forward to the second year and lots of new frogs.

This great collectible was actually the second frog that I showcased as Frog of the Day, but Forest from Quarry Critters has been right beside me all along and I think of him as my official mascot here at Frog Central. So he's making an appearance today to wish a Happy Anniversary.

If you enjoy this site, please consider using the donating button on the right. There are a lot of new collectibles that I would like to display here - and that means funding.

Thanks again for a great year!

This collectible is from Boyds Bears and Friends Wee Folkstone Ribbit & Co. It is entitled Ms. Lilypond . . . Lesson Number One. This piece is a limited edition. Mine is edition 1E, number 299. This dates to 1999. Boyds did these frogs for a couple years and then did not make any further - too bad, because the detail and themes of these pieces are just wonderful.

There are many products that use the frog as their logo and here is one such item. This is a bottle of Suave Kids Conditioner go go grape. The frog is using his lilypad to surf across the bottle. Thanks to frogcollectibles watcher Kathy for sending along this item for the collection.

Friday Dog Blogging

The Frog Wrangler a/k/a Shadow
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

Other blogs have picked up on the tradition, tailoring it to their own - one I know of has Friday Orchid Blogging. So in that tradition, today is the first time for me to step back and to do a little Friday Dog Blogging.

This is the famous Frog Wrangler, called Shadow around here. She's 13 1/2 years old and an all around general sweetheart. I adopted her from the local animal shelter when she was 4 months old. She had been pretty badly abused, but as you can see from her sitting in her favorite chair, she's been spoiled ever since.

Frog of the Day

Today was just not a good day for photography. A couple people sent well wishes for the Frog Wrangler and I'm happy to report that she was feeling better today and woke up read to play - always a good sign. I will try to remember to post a picture on Friday in the grand blog tradition, but with a canine twist of course, of Friday Cat Blogging.

These cute frogs are found on Decorative Metalhoods. The maker's logo of CB is on the package but not their actual name. The UPC tag states that it is known as Froggy Day. Twelve hooks come in the package.

Frog of the Day

This morning started very early with a sick Frog Wrangler. The Frog Wrangler seems to be doing a bit better - she just wants to sit in my lap all day - all 60 lbs. of her!

This plush frog is from Applause. The frog is holding a little silk pillow that says "Kiss Me I'm Charming." This is a frog that I've had for some time and it is not dated anywhere. A cute little addition to the collection.

Frog of the Day

It was a bad night here at Frog Central. The lightning shook the house and the wind blew tremendously. Thankfully there was no damage here, but not too far away in Indiana, the storm spawned a tornado that so far has killed 16 people and destroyed numerous homes. It hit at about two in the morning - and reports at daybreak are saying it's the worst tornado since 1925.

This frog collectible is from Castagna which are made in Italy. It is entitled Frog Playing Marbles. Although it dates to 1998, it can still be purchased from The Frog Store (link in column on right).

Frog of the Day

So I have this whole tub of candy because I didn't have any trick or treaters here at Frog Central and I've been on a sugar rush for days! I'm ready to get my back pack and clip on my Springteen and head out shopping.

This cute plush frog is from MTY International and is called a Springteen. It has a large clip on the back for a child to clip it to his/her back pack for school. The frog is wearing it's own zippered back pack that can hold a small item. A cute little plush!
