Frog of the Day

Saturday and it is a dreary day here at Frog Central. A little rain last night, but they are calling for a lot more over the next 2 days. No sitting on the bench in the yard this weekend.

This frog item is a 1997 calendar from Northwood. While I like all the calendars I recieve, Northwood is great because they have pictures of frogs that are in America. Fascinating frogs that you may actually be able to see.

Personally, I think she keeps looking at her blanket on the back of the chair and wondering when I'll take the hint and give it to her...

Frog of the Day

Decided to sleep in a bit this morning after a busy, busy week. And a cold one too! I had to turn back on the heat as daytime temps are only in the low 60's. The Frog Wrangler and I are going to go curl up and keep warm!

These frog collectible items and handpainted decals from Decoral. The one on the right dates to 1979, the one on the right is from 1986. There are two packages of each design.

Ah! It's about time I was let out to wreak havoc. Now about that Frog Wrangler....

This frog item is from Trendsetters and part of their CyberPets line. He is called Boss Frog a/k/a Robo-Ribbit. He has zapping toungue action, his eyes and mouth move, and he hops and dances. He also eats up a lot of batteries - 7 to start! This is a cool remote control frog I received Christmas 2001.

This frog item is another from Spectra Star. You may remember the recent Frog Flyer. Well this is their Frog Ball. This dates to 1991.

Frog of the Day

Yesterday Blogger was down most of the day, today Flickr - the site that holds the photos - has been having problems. Well, that's the way it goes with technology. In other news, we got some rain last evening. I was sitting in my chair with the Frog Wrangler when I heard the rain starting to fall. So I jumped up, ran around and closed all the windows and as I pulled that last window closed it stopped raining. And yes, as I opened up the last window it started again...

This frog collectible is from the National Wildlife Federation. This is a Red-Eyed Tree Frog that sits on the corner of a door frame or mantle. It has a sticky tape on the inside to afix it. It is made of ceramic. I do not have a date for this item.

I won't reproduce the entire paper that came with this item but here are a few choice quotes:

There are more than 400 species of tree frogs.
Part of this tiny amphibian's Latin name means "beautiful tree nymph."
It lives it's entire life in the tops of trees and descends to the ground only to mate.
The female is 3 times larger than the male, whom she carries around on her back while she finds a place to lay her eggs.

Russ - Fleegle
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

This plush frog is hanging out on the top of my computer today. His name is Fleegle and he is from Russ. Fleegle has been one of the most successful plush frogs for Russ and he has been available continuously since about the 1970's. He comes in a variety of sizes. An earlier posting of Fleegle was the largest. Today's is the smallest measuring a mere 7 inches in length. This particular Fleegle was purchased this year.

Frog of the Day

It's Sunday and I'm going to keep this short and sweet so I can go read my paper...that is if the Frog Wrangler will let me have my chair!

This is from United Designs Corporation and is a magnet of their frog couple. This piece dates to 1997.

This frog collectible is from Russ and is called Fruggy. He comes in a variety of colors and this one is green. I did not know, until recently, that the green one is the hardest one to find.

Frog of the Day

Thursday morning and another beautiful day. The Frog Wrangler and I are enjoying the spring weather and airing out the house. Nothing like fresh air to get you into the spring cleaning mood...

This was a delicious frog item! It is from Celebrity Products by DaVinci Chocolates in Seattle, Washington. It is an edible chocolate game - Tic, Tac, Toad! It came with a milk chocolate game board and white milk chocolate and milk chocolate frogs. I received this as a gift in 1989. My first thought was to keep it intact, but with edible items they will eventually go bad, so after much thought decided to enjoy a game with a friend were we got to eat the winnings!

Frog of the Day

Went around and opened up the windows this morning. It's a little cool yet this morning, but it's supposed to be high 70's today and tomorrow. I decided to skip the whole toaster pastry this morning and opted for juice instead. I couldn't handle another morning of the Frog Wrangler laughing at me....

These frog collectibles are from a company called California Pacific Designs. This is their Earthwing Collector Stickers entitled Rainforest Frogs. There are only 2 sheets in the collection and both are pictured here. The back of the stickers has an identification chart as well as a bit of frog information on poison-dart frogs (which encompasses most of the stickers). The stickers are a plastic puffy type. These stickers date to 1994.

Frog Can Crusher
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
A friend of mine says I have to write this stuff down - personally I think she just gets pleasure from my pain. When I went shopping yesterday I picked up, on special, a box of toaster strudel pastries. So this morning I wake up and think hey, that would be great. So I get the toaster out of the cabinet, plug it in and pop the pastries in, and push the button down - not realizing that the light/darkness button had slid all the way to dark. Ugh! So while my struedel is fast becoming charcoal I turn to the little icing packets. There is one packet for each icing. They come in a big strip that is perforated (for your convenience, no doubt). So I rip off two - one for each of my charcoal briquettes. Then using scissors cut off the little tip and I'm now ready to salvage what is left of my disaster of a breakfast. What I didn't realize, but soon found out while squeezing the icing packet, is that in ripping it from the strip, it ripped into the side of the packet. So a good squeeze put more icing in my hand than on my blackened pastries. Oh, it's been a good morning!

This frog item is a Frog Can Crusher. Neither the box nor the item has any identifying marks.

Frog of the Day

I bet your thinking he overslept, blogging so late in the day - but in reality I've been up since my usual 6 a.m. I hit the grocery store first thing this morning and well, that's a three hour prospect. But hey, I saved fifteen bucks with my coupons! That makes the hours I spend clipping, sorting, and pulling my hair out at the supermarket all worth it.

This frog item is from the Rene Collection and is a bath pet. It is exclusively from CVS. I do not have a date for this item.

This frog item is a handmade tie from Dino Romaro. I do not have any further information on this item.

Frog of the Day

Wow! Friday already. This week has flown right by. And with the weather topping out at 86 degrees today I thought along with hot there should be a little spicy...

Westland Giftware is by far one of my favorite collectibles. They have consistently put out some really great items such as this frog collectible from their Fanciful Frogs line. It is called Hopping Jalapenos. This is a new item - just received it yesterday. If you would like to see more of the Fanciful Frogs line then click on the Frog Store link in the right hand column.

Wake Up! It has been beautiful weather here - mid 80's. It's been nice to open up the windows and air the place out. The Frog Wrangler has especially been happy about the joys of receiving all the spring smells. So Wake Up! and enjoy.

This frog book is called Wake Up Frog! by Annie Owen. It is part of the Animal Friends Board Books from Kingfisher Books. I received this book in 1994 from a very young froggy named Sean.

This frog collectible is from Annalee Dolls and is their 10" Fishin' Freddy Frog. He's had a pretty successful day. There are a couple fish in his basket and a black boot on his pole! The tag has the date 1998 on it.

Spectra Star - Frogball Flyer
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
I have to say, when things are in plastic it is really hard to get a picture! Well the Wrangler and I got up early today - already did a bit of cleaning. Today plans to be a busy one. Today the lawn gets mowed for the first time of the season. I'd say that means warmer weather is finally here to stay, but tonight there are frost warnings!

This is Frogball Flyer, The Awesome Airborne Amphibian, from Spectra Star. This dates to 1991.

Frog of the Day

It's Friday. And the storms threatened for last night fizzled and it's a bright sunny day here at Frog Central. A good day to go run some errands so I can have a nice quiet weekend.

This frog item is from American Greetings and is 4 sheets of Jim Henson's Muppets stickers. Of course, they are all of Kermit. I do not find a date on this item.

Silk Screened Frog Set
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

This is a silk-screened piece of cloth that a friend did for me when he worked for Zooper Shirts in New Jersey. This is a demonstration sheet that they put together of different frogs that they could screen onto shirts for clients. This was made in the early 1990's. Many thanks to KD.

Frog of the Day

It's pledge week at NPR so don't forget to call and make that pledge to help support independent radio and television. I have to hurry this morning because I have blueberry muffins in the oven! The Frog Wrangler is sound asleep in her customary place - having found a rabbit in her yard this morning gave her the momentary vim and vigor of puppyhood. Now she's resting up from that bought and probably will be all day!

Yes, this is actually a razor. It is from C.A. Daniels & Co. and is called Prince Shavingwell. It comes in it's own little velour pouch with extra blades and a two-page story entitled The Tale Toad which is way too long to reproduce here and so full of schmaltz it's just too hard to read and I wouldn't put my loyal readers through it! This froggie razor dates to 1993.

Frog of the Day

Did you remember to set your clocks ahead? I have a couple yet to do, so half the house is the right time, the half not - the tough part is remembering which is which!

This calendar is from 1994 and is from Northwood Press. It is entitled Just Frogs and is spiral bound. On the cover is a lovely White's Frog - an Australian Tree Frog.
