Frog of the Day

Dear Diary - you wouldn't believe in a million years what happened today... HEY, it's not polite to read someone else's diary. Today's a real nice day here at Frog Central - it's supposed to be in the 70's and it does certainly feel like it.

This is an empty journal book from Pretty Paper. The cover design is by Dan Gilbert. The ISBN number is 0-7852-2719-9. It has about 30 lined blank pages.

Looking for a Green Russ Fruggy

Quite often I receive requests of help in locating specific frog items. I do my best to help out and to search all my contacts. But as they say, many hands make light work, so I thought as I receive requests I'd throw them out and see if between all of us we could find that special frog that people which people are trying to find. Who knows, maybe you will have a duplicate - or triplicate - in your own collection and wouldn't mind selling one.

So today I'm hoping we can help out a froggy friend who is looking for a green Russ Fruggy. Unfortunately a doggy got hold of her froggy and decided it was a great chew toy (let's all bow our heads for a moment of silence over the carnage).

If you find one or have one - please send me an e-mail and I'll pass along the information.

Frog of the Day

It's warming up here at Frog Central but with that comes volatile weather. The problem with that is the local television stations interrupt every program you're watching with updates. Remember when an evening thunderstorm was something you went out on the porch and sat in those metal bouncy chairs so you could watch the lightning and listen to the rain bounce of the metal canopy overhang? I wonder why they sent me out there while everyone else stayed inside...

Every string band needs a banjo player - just ask the mummers. This frog statuary is part of The Garden Collection. It is made of resien and suitable for outside, but I tend to keep my frogs inside for fear they'd hop away, if you know what I mean. I do not have any further information about this item.

Frog Magnet

This frog collectible is a resin figure of a frog on a lilypad. He's enjoying sipping a cool drink and catching some sun - love the shades. Even a ladybug doesn't seem to peak his interest. This is a refrigerator magnet that I received as a gift in 2000 from a former neighbor who knew I loved frogs. I do not have any further information on this item.

Frog of the Day

The Frog Wrangler decided to sleep in this morning (thank goodness) and I had to wake her up at 8 o'clock. Although happy to go out, she was happier to crawl back in her chair and on top of her afghan and go right back to sleep. She's not interested in the antics of these characters at all!

This item may be considered frog statuary, but at about 6 inches tall it would easily get lost in the frog garden. There is a sticker on the bottom that says The Garden Collection and the 3 frogs are striking the classic see no evil, say no evil, hear no evil pose. I am not sure from when this dates, but I believe it was purchased within the last 5 to 7 years.

Frog of the Day

You don't know the meaning of pandemonium until you've opened the door and a fly comes in and you have a house full of frogs!

This cute frog plush is from Warehouse 104 and is part of their Garden Gang collection. I do not have any other information about this item.

Avon - Sea Friends Soap Frog
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Sunday morning and doing all the usual stuff. I do have to say that the Frog Wrangler has been getting up especially early - I'm looking forward to the clocks hopping ahead. When it's not quite 5 a.m. and you look at that clock because the Wrangler is standing on top of you saying it's time to get up - it's just too early in the morning.

This frog soap is from Avon and is part of the Kids line labelled Sea Friends Soap - Frog. It is a 1 oz. bar of soap. I love the stripes! This dates to 1995.

Frog of the Day

How's the song go - Come Saturday Morning - lalalala...ok, I know, you'd rather listen to a chorus of croaking frogs. Well it's a bit cold here for the spring peepers to be out, so how about the sweet tones of a froggie wind chime.

This frog collectible is from United Designs and is a Red-Eyed Tree Frog Wind Chime in miniature - yep, it has a magnet on the back and it goes on your refrigerator door. I put mine on the freezer door and every time I open the door the Frog Wrangler comes running wanting one of her doggy ice cream treats! This dates to 1997.

Garden Statuary - Frog Welcome
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Ah, it's Friday. It's been a hectic week and hopefully the Frog Wrangler and I can settle down for a nice quiet weekend. The plan is to make some turkey and dumplings (yep, still eating turkey).

This frog item is a garden statuary welcome sign. There is no information known about this item other than a Made in China sticker on the bottom. Who could ask for a nicer welcome to your local toad abode.

Ty - Prince
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

This frog collectible is from Ty and is from their Attic Treasures Collection. He is known as Prince. He is fully jointed and poseable. The tag has a copyright date of 1993, however, based upon the tag style this actually dates to sometime after 1998.

This is another in the series of Frog Danglers and I call it Floatin' Froggie. In this one you can see the spring and string much more clearly than in the previous ones. They will make a nice ornament on the Christmas tree this year.

Hallmark - Fritz Frog Esquire
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

This plush frog is from Hallmark and is part of their Storybook Friends line which is presented by Crayola. This is Fritz Frog Esquire. This dates to 1997.

From the Tag:
I'm Fritz Frog, Esquire,
I'm a gent in shades of green -
I'm faster than the speed of sound,
A total speed machine!
But I am more
than merely "cool,"
At times I'm kinda shy -
A poet of the pond,
A quite serene,
Green kind of guy!

Frog of the Day

You put your left foot in, you take... oh sorry, I caught these frogs doing the hokey-pokey this morning and looked like so much fun the Frog Wrangler and I decided to join in. We need to have lots of activities to do because we are expecting a foot of snow tonight! Happy First Day of Spring!!!

These frogs are refrigerator magnets from Bully. Bully is more commonly kown as the maker of the little blue smurfs, but they have a wide range of items they've made. I'm not sure of the material they are made out of - it feels like a rubbery plastic, if that makes sense. These frogs date to 1986.

Frog of the Day

Well the weather has shifted again and today they're calling for snow - measurable snow! This winter sure has been strange.

This frog plush is from Russ Berrie & Co. and is part of their Home Buddies Collection, Geezer Gallery line. He's wearing a black t-shirt that says Once a Prince...Now a Toad. A quick check of the web finds that the Geezer Gallery of Russ is still available - check out A Froggy Place - link in right hand column.

Garden Statuary - Frogs
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
The weekend is here and time to get out and begin that yard clean-up. Spring is only a week or two away - bulbs are sprouting up - some daffodils are even in bloom. Frogs will be looking for mushrooms - hey these two found one!

This is a cute piece. I bought it at a half-off sale at a local shop. It was billed as garden statuary but I think it's a little light for that as it is made out a resin-type material. There ar no identifying marks on the piece. It dates to around 2003. I love the detail that was achieved in this piece.

Happy St. Patrick's Day - I'm off to have a green treat!

You know she's just thinking "Oh, the inhumanity of it all!" But don't worry, the Frog Wrangler was not even aware of the shamrock as it was added digitally afterwards - for that I'm sure she's thankful!

Frog of the Day

I know that the boiled dinner of corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes is the traditional St. Patrick's Day meal but I decided on turkey. So today I'm cooking a 20 pounder - that should keep the Frog Wrangler and I for weeks to come! Thank goodness I bought extra stuffing.

This frog is a refrigerator magnet for United Design and is part of their Animal Magnetism line called Don't Worry Be Hoppy. This magnet has been on the fridge since 1994, the year from which it dates.

This collectible frog is a Christopher Radko ornament and is called Lilypad Princess. It is ornament number 1012071 and is part of the 2005 20th Anniversary Collection. It does have the red 20th Anniversary tag. It is a clip ornament. A really cute ornament and fun collectible.

Frog of the Day

Finally a nice, albeit cooler, day here at Frog Central. There are daffodils blossoming outside and the froggies are happy to get out into the sunshine and hop around a bit. Don't worry, the Frog Wrangler will keep an eye on them to be sure they don't hop too far!

This set of frogs is from J.S.N.Y. and is 3 of a set of 4 frogs entitled Mother Frog and Babies. The 4th must of been packed in a different box. They are made of plastic and have a bottom plug that can be opened to fill them with sand or water for stability if you leave them outside. The set was purchased through Carol Wright Gifts.

Avon Plush Frog
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
Last night I was hearing preliminary reports of the damage that was being done by the storm - hundreds of homes, as well as a Kmart being flattened! They said that we received an entire's year of tornadoes and wind in one night. And the height of the season is 2 months away! Thank goodness Frog Central is safe and sound.

This plush (yeah, the latest box to be unpacked was all plush - I'll mix it up tomorrow after I have had a chance to sleep for a night!) - this plush is from Avon. He's dressed in his shorts and ready to go swimming. I have no other information about this item.

Russ - Fleegle
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.

The weatherman broke into programming to say that 8 houses had collapsed several towns over and it's headed right for you! Thankfully all the frogs are safe and sound and as they say - the show must go on!

This frog plush is from Russ and is part of their Heartcraft Collection and is called Fleegle. Russ has done well with Fleegle and he is offered in different sizes - one was posted last year. This one is approximately 12 inches tall. I do not have a date on this item but I am sure it dates to within the last 5 years (so after 2000).

This is another in the series of Frog Danglers. I call this one Gone Fishin' and with that bug juice in his hand he's looking a little glassy eyed. But if he's not careful that worm that's crawled off his hook is going to get away altogether! These ornaments are fun frog items from Collections, Etc. They are made in China.

Frog of the Day

The thunder and lightning have finally calmed down a bit so I thought I'd hop on the computer quickly. The rain will be good for the bulbs that are peeking through the ground ever so tentatively.

I only have a few Budweiser Frog items. I'm not a beer drinker and so while I loved the frogs, I wasn't necessarily interested in the big beer logo that went with it. But this mug is fun. You press a little button on the lid and it croaks out Bud-wei-ser. This is an "Official Product" of Anheuser-Busch and dates to 1996.

And just a reminder to remember to remove batteries from your collectibles. I did not do that with this item and one of the batteries had just started to pucker a bit and would probably have started leaking soon. That can quickly destroy your collectible.

Frog Danglers - Gardening Gal
Originally uploaded by KenCalvino.
And the Oscar goes to ... oh, who cares. Maybe now the news channels will get back to real news. So I did a marathon grocery shop yesterday and I was glad to get the cupboards filled. I was getting tired of the Frog Wrangler referring to me as "Old Mother Hubbard" to all the fogs!

This frog item is another in the collection of Frog Danglers. As the individual pieces do not have names I call this one Gardening Gal. These danglers are from the catalog Collections, Etc. They are made in China. A really nice set of ornaments that are full of whimsy.

Frog of the Day

It's Sunday and looks to be a nice day. It's time for the Wrangler and me sit around on a lilypad and read the newspaper.

This frog item is from Avon and is called Sammy the Frog Soap Float. It consists of a plastic frog that sits atop a lilypad made of soap. This froggy dates to 1991 and you can see the color in the soap is fading over time.

Frog of the Day

Well the warm weather is over and the wind is whipping colder north winds. But the exciting news is that there was an earthquake here at Frog Central yesterday. It only meaured 3.0, but who would have believed I moved over an actve fault line - of that one even exists in the mid-west!

This frog item is from Robert Powell and is a wall night light. It is style number 11. It is made of porcelain and is actually quite heavy. I don't have an exact date but I believe this dates to the early 1990's.
